Alison Lee’s foray into the top ranks of her sport came to a close on Sunday — at least for now.

The Valencia High graduate and UCLA freshman finished 2-over and tied for 29th place at the Kraft Nabisco Championship, which is an LPGA major, in Rancho Mirage.

The 19-year-old Lee was playing the event as an amateur after receiving a sponsor’s exemption.

She’ll return to competition for UCLA, where she’s already won two tournaments and posted the team’s best scoring average on the year.

Lee is also the third-ranked amateur woman golfer in the world.

But for now, she wants to stick with the college game.

“I still feel like I have a lot to learn and experience in college before I turn pro and start to play with professionals,” Lee said last week before the tournament.

Though she did admit she likes the idea of playing professionally, Lee said her heart is with UCLA, where she is an international development studies major.

This week marked Lee’s fifth career appearance in an LPGA major with three previous starts at the U.S. Women’s Open and once prior at the Kraft Nabisco tourney.

This week marked the first time Lee made the 36-hole cut at the Kraft Nabisco, which was played at the par-72 Mission Hills Country Club.

Lee posted rounds of 75, 74, 70 and a 71 on Sunday.

Her next competition for UCLA will be the Pac-12 Championships running from April 25-27.
