They’re things you could never unload at a garage sale and you don’t dare dump in the trash: old paint, pesticides and broken television sets.

These and other hazardous wastes, however, can be legally discarded at the Countywide Household Hazardous Waste and E-Waste Roundup scheduled 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at College of the Canyons.

The free event, one of more than 50 like it held each year by the county Department of Public Works and Sanitation Districts, provides a legal alternative to drains and trash cans for environmentally unkind waste.

Other waste accepted includes, used motor oil, antifreeze, unused pharmaceuticals, syringes, paint, car batteries, pen needles, lancets and IV needles, household batteries and fluorescent light bulbs, as well as e-waste, including TVs, monitors, computers, VCRs, stereos and cell phones.
