Driver fatigue is suspected to have played a part in a single-car crash near Agua Dulce Saturday night that claimed the life of a Palmdale man, according to the California Highway Patrol officer investigating the incident.

Dead is Eduardo Hernandez, 39, of Palmdale, said CHP Officer T. Loveless.

About 7:10 p.m. Saturday, Loveless was on a traffic stop on the right shoulder of the northbound Highway 14, just north of Agua Dulce Canyon Road, he wrote in his report.

Loveless said he heard a loud impact south of his location.

He wrote that he saw a 1999 Toyota Camry with major front end damage “coming to rest in a concrete culvert” between two hillsides, just east of his patrol vehicle’s location.

The Toyota had been driven by Hernandez in the northbound lanes of Highway 14 northbound, north of Agua Dulce Canyon Road, travelling in an unknown lane and at an unknown speed, he wrote in his report

“Hernandez turned his vehicle to the right and drove onto the shoulder and into the culvert, striking the dirt hillside north of the culvert with the front of the vehicle causing fatal injuries to Heranadez,” he said.

“According to statement obtained after the collision,” Loveless wrote, “It appears driver fatigue contributed to this collision.”
