Apathy is alive and well in the SCV

I have always said, as my dad would say, “If you don’t vote, then keep your mouth shut.”

I read about the recent local election of persons for the Santa Clarita City Council and that only 14.2 percent of the 111,661 registered voters went to the polls. That, according to The Signal, was down from the 17 percent from the last local election.

“I didn’t have the time “or “I was working” or “I had other things to do” or “I had to stay home and watch the grass grow.”

What is more important than electing person(s) to your City Council who you hope will do the right things for the good of the city?

These are people you have placed your trust in to represent you in matters that you believe are important for yourself and the city.

I have lived in this SCV for well over 50 years, and since the city incorporated over 20 years ago, I have seen apathy raise its ugly head election after election after election.

And it’s the people who don’t vote who raise the most hell with the City Council whenever they believe something is wrong.

My wife and I have not missed one election that I can remember, and I have had my share of complaints with the city and some of their projects because I voted and feel that I have the right to voice my complaints. And I have.

So I guess you have figured out by now that my attitude is: if you don’t vote, then keep the trap shut and live with what the city does.

Keep your complaints to yourself.
