The city of Santa Clarita invites local artists to explore the world of public art from a business perspective with a free Panel Discussion on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. at the Old Town Newhall Library, located at 24500 Main Street. No RSVP is required to attend.

The panel discussion will provide valuable information about how to break into a career in public art. Respected figures from the Los Angeles art scene comprise the panel, including Alan Nakagawa from Metro Arts’ Public Art program; Professor Renee Petropulous from the Otis College of Art and Design; and the Director of GLOW Marc Pally. The panel’s moderator will be CalArts Director Tom Lesser who oversees the Arts and Technology Program in the School of Art and the Center for Integrated Media.

“The City of Santa Clarita is dedicated to increasing awareness of the value of the arts and what it adds to our flourishing community,” commented Mayor Laurene Weste. “This panel discussion is not only a great opportunity for residents to engage with professional artists, but to learn more about the business of public art.”

The panel discussion is being presented in conjunction with the City of Santa Clarita’s “New Heights” Artist Development Series.

For more information about the Panel Discussion, contact City Arts and Events Supervisor Jeff Barber at (661) 250-3779 or by email at
