The billboard petition needs more time

We need more time to gather signatures for the referendum to prevent MTA and Allvision from moving forward with the digital/electronic billboards.

Since someone hired thugs — oh, excuse me, “blockers” — to intimidate and harass people to prevent them from signing the petition for the referendum, we have no way of knowing how many people were not able to sign due to this illegal tactic.

The city and the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors should extend the signing deadline.

In all the years I’ve lived in the Santa Clarita Valley, this is the first time I know of that outsiders have been hired to block the will of the citizens of our community.

Three members of the City Council made a decision that affects all of us, and will affect us, for the next 50 years if the referendum fails.

Here are other issues that concern me:

1. Why did the city agreed to pay a local billboard company $3.2 million to put them out of business?

2. Has the City Council addressed the situation of the many billboards that have recently sprung up along Bouquet/Railroad/Newhall Avenue, owned by CBS and Clearvision? (Could someone find out when they were erected?)

If the original plan was to remove billboard blight, have these been considered? Can the MTA remove those?

Does anyone have a list of which billboards are scheduled to be removed? I realize we have a number, but I don’t recall seeing which ones will be removed by MTA.

3. Have the local advertisers on billboards not owned by Edwards Outside Advertising been compensated for the removal of their ads? Or are they not part of “the deal?"
