Business brief: VIA luncheon to discuss statewide education cuts

Two local school leaders will discuss the impact of the proposed statewide budgets on the Santa Clarita Valley's educational institutions during the Valley Industrial Association's luncheon scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on April 15.

The monthly luncheon, which will take place at the Hyatt Valencia, features speakers Jaime Castellanos, superintendent of the William S. Hart Union High School District, Barry Gibbons, assistant superintendent and vice president of institutional development, technology and online services for College of the Canyons and Eric Harnish, special assistant to the superintendent/president and director of external relations.

The keynote discussion is intended to explore steps the business community can take to safeguard local educational funding.

The luncheon also will feature representatives from the SCV Jaycees and Brenda Mehling Foundation to provide an overview of the seventh Annual Fight It 5K event scheduled for May 17.

The VIA luncheon is open to the public. The cost is $40 for VIA members and $50 for nonmembers.
