SAN FERNANDO - Jorge Valle, the 24-year-old Palmdale man who was accused of shooting at a medical clinic employee last year in Valencia, was sentenced to 15 years in prison after striking a deal with prosecutors.

During a hearing in a San Fernando Superior court room Monday, Valle pleaded no contest to one count of assault with a firearm, and admitted to a prior strike condition. He had originally faced multiple felony counts in connection with the Jan. 30, 2007 run-in when he allegedly shot at a Facey Medical Clinic employee near the intersection of McBean Parkway and Valencia Boulevard.
Valle was already on parole for a felony narcotics violation, which factored into the sentencing decision, according to Deputy District Attorney Susan Gruber.
"He received such a long sentence because of his conduct during the assault and his previous criminal history," Gruber said.
According to Sheriff's reports, Valle was driving through the Facey parking lot in a tan, four-door American car after dropping off his girlfriend at the medical center when he encountered the employee, who was sitting in another vehicle. The two made eye contact, then Valle verbally accosted the employee before pulling out a gun and shooting at the man's windshield with a black, semiautomatic handgun.
The employee was not harmed, and Sheriff's detectives arrested Valle on March 7 following an investigation into the shooting, the reports indicated.
In addition to the prison sentence, Valle was also ordered to pay $400 restitution to the victim for the damaged windshield.
During the proceedings Valle requested that he be allowed to serve his sentence in a southern California facility to be near his mother, who is currently undergoing treatment for cancer. The judge agreed to pass on the request to the appropriate authorities. Valle is currently being held in the North County Correctional Facility in Castaic.
Valle also asked the bailiff if he could be allowed to hold his infant daughter before leaving the courthouse. The bailiff denied the request, citing rules that prohibit contact between inmates and spectators. However, he did allow Valle's girlfriend, 21-year-old Heidi Aguayo of Palmdale, to hold the baby close enough so that Valle could see her before leaving.
