Firefighters rescue duck family

I would like to thank the firefighters who came to our assistance (Easter Sunday) in Stevenson Ranch.

Three small ducklings had fallen into a storm drain along The Old Road. Joggers had heard their cries and called PetSmart to see if they could get assistance. I am a volunteer with a cat rescue group that does adoptions at PetSmart. The manager came to me for suggestions on what to do.

We tried contacting Animal Control but there was no answer. One of my volunteers and I went up to assess the situation. Someone finally got through to the local Fire Department and they came to the rescue. Manhole covers were removed, firemen went down into the storm drain and three ducklings were safely brought out.

One of the people who had initially found the ducklings said she had seen the direction Mama Duck had gone with two other ducklings. Mama Duck was located and the ducklings were released back with her.

We couldn't have done this without the help of the local Fire Department and I just want to let them know that they are appreciated, even if it was a "small" rescue.
