So, the City Council election is coming right up. Days away. And there's a bunch of names on the ballot that may or may not mean much to you, other than some name-recognition through mountains of mailers and letters to the editor. There's five fine candidates running for the council, and on Tuesday you're voting for two of them. But one stands head and shoulders above the rest.

Maria Gutzeit should absolutely be your first choice - regardless of your political affiliation or politics. Let me succinctly tell you why.

As a Santa Clarita resident, what's most important to you? Let me guess them in order:
1. Efficient traffic and transportation
2. Air and water quality
3. Quality schools and public parks
4. Fast police and fire response
5. Honesty and transparency in our local government
6. Smart oversight of local development Maria Gutzeit is the one candidate that has the bona-fide, real professional experience and credentials to provide the top-rate public stewardship for your important concerns.

Maria already sits on the Newhall Water District Board. She knows water like no one else. She understands how to get clean water, and how to get our valley enough of it.

Maria is a chemical engineer by education and an environmental-compliance consultant by profession. It's her job to assist businesses in operating safely and cleanly, in accordance with our environmental and pollution laws.

She knows what's effective and what's not when it comes to achieving a healthy environment for our families.

As an engineer and consultant, she understands the complexities of civil and environmental engineering. Many disciplines converge in traffic flow management, and Maria is the only candidate bringing sufficient education and experience to the table to properly manage our transportation needs.

Maria is a vibrant athlete. She appreciates our parks and open spaces.

She knows the quality of life good development brings to everyone in the city. With her education and experience, she'll work between developers and public interest to ensure smart, attractive, beneficial growth. And she'll insist on proper management of our city's important public resources.

Maria is a dedicated public servant. Having already worked in multiple public sector positions, she respects the contributions of our police, fire, teachers, and other public service providers. She knows we must insist on good value from our service providers, but we owe them respect and fair dealing, too. Maria is the perfect independent voice to manage the complex relationships between the city and our service providers.

Finally, Maria is of the highest personal integrity. She's running for City Council because she loves our city and she's motivated to help build Santa Clarita's successful future. She's completely independent of any special interests. You can count on her to represent your concerns without sway from this or that lobbyist or business. No one is more honest than Maria.

Maria Gutzeit is your first choice for City Council. There simply is no one better to professionally and honestly represent our important interests.
