Residents are being cautioned to expect traffic delays along Lyons Avenue this summer as a wide stretch of one of the Santa Clarita Valley’s most-traveled thoroughfares will be undergoing work as part of Santa Clarita’s street maintenance program.

Work is scheduled to begin along Lyons Avenue in Newhall between Wiley Canyon Road and Walnut Street on Monday, June 30, according to a news release issued by the city Tuesday.

Construction will take place from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Friday and is expected to continue through mid-September, according to the release.

Work will include grinding and paving to smooth out the road and temporary re-striping of lanes to accommodate traffic and construction.

Residents and drivers should expect delays throughout construction, according to city officials. Lane closures are expected to be in effect during construction hours, with partial lane openings for traffic.

Signs will be posted to alert drivers during the project and electronic message boards are now in place to alert drivers of the project, according to officials.

“The city works hard to assure our roads are safe and smooth,” said Santa Clarita Mayor Laurene Weste. “This year we are spending several million dollars on roadway improvements city-wide.

“These efforts contribute to our high quality of life in Santa Clarita,” Weste continued.
