On Friday, June 13, 2014, through the early morning hours of Saturday, June 14, 2014, deputies assigned to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Crime Prevention Unit (CPU) along with deputies from the Crime Impact Team (CIT) and station COBRA detectives conducted a late night saturation patrol operation using patrol vehicles, deputies on bicycles, and deputies on foot patrol. The deputies deployed on the paseos, trails, and streets throughout the city of Santa Clarita. The operation began at 9:00 pm and went into the early morning hours.

The purpose of Friday night’s operation was to address some community concerns and to send a clear message to anyone considering using the paseo systems for unlawful purposes such as loitering, alcohol consumption, drug use, or to commit acts of vandalism. Deputies were also enforcing the curfew ordinance which applies to those 17 years old and younger and makes it unlawful for any minor to remain upon any public street, public building, place of amusement, eating place, vacant lot, or unsupervised place between the hours of 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.

In order to address the above concerns, deputies assigned to the CPU, CIT, and COBRA team conducted this saturation operation focusing on area parks and other locations where juveniles are likely to congregate.

The results of Friday night’s operation were as follows:

One fifteen year old was cited for curfew violation, possession of marijuana, and minor in possession of a lighter at the Santa Clarita Transit Center.

One sixteen year old was cited for a curfew violation at the Santa Clarita Transit Center.

One seventeen year old was cited for curfew violation near Grovepark Drive, Saugus.

One adult was cited near Grovepark Drive, Saugus for an open alcoholic beverage container.

Our deputies and special teams, both in uniform and undercover, are commonly utilized to patrol the paseos and surrounding terrain at undisclosed and random times throughout the year to ensure the safety and serenity of Santa Clarita’s more than 20 miles of picturesque trails, designed for bicycle commuting and recreational use.
