Breathtaking moments

I have a theory. Clichés become so over-used because for years, for so many people, it’s the most accurate way to describe a pivotal life experience that most people struggle through, grasping for the right words and always falling back on a few familiar ones.

When I was 12, I was a total pain. My family went on an incredible summer vacation, and for about two weeks of road-tripping, I refused to do anything more than pull my nose out of a book to pout. My parents must have loved me.

Somewhere along the way, they yanked and yelled me out of the car and pushed me to the edge of a canyon – Bryce Canyon in Utah. It literally took my breath away. The sheer awe of its beauty pulled the air from my chest.

The first time I held a newborn – she took my breath away. The first time I watched a grown man cry, crippled underneath the weight of loss and grief, his raw emotion took my breath away.

There are a handful of moments in my life that stay with me simply because – they took my breath away.

What took your breath away?
