Using farm tractors, Gorman residents helped firefighters extinguish a quarter-acre grass fire Sunday morning, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.

Shortly before 9:30 a.m. Sunday, firefighters responded to reports of a brush fire near Barnes Ranch Road and Highway 138 near Gorman, said Fire Department Supervisor Cheryl Sims.

“Residents put a line around the fire with tractors,” she said.

Firefighters, with the help of residents, extinguished the fire in less than 15 minutes, Sims said.  At 9:45 a.m., they had the fire under control.

“Our crews are still out there, making sure it’s totally out,” she said at 10:30 a.m.

The fire burned about one quarter acre.
