Snake alert

Recently, I was driving in my neighborhood when something caught my eye crossing the street in front of me. A very large gopher snake was booking it across the hot asphalt from left to right.

I stopped to let the snake cross. It was moving at warp speed for a snake due to the high temperature of the street surface.

Now, this street is two lanes with room to park at the curb, and luckily there was no one parked in this area.

To my surprise someone approaching from the rear of my car, passed me on the right and drove over the snake’s tail.

I am grateful that it wasn’t a child or someone’s dog that got gutter sniped by the driver who was exercising his special Santa Clarita privileged status.

It seems like many people in our community think they are very special or are constantly responding to emergencies that exist only in their minds.

So if you are working in your yard and you find a large snake with a flat tail, don’t be alarmed because it is not a sea snake (hydrophiinaea), it is just a victim of our special brand of driving here in the city of Santa Clarita.
