The Jewish congregations of the Santa Clarita Valley are inviting all local residents to join them Sunday for an informational meeting on Israel and the situation in Gaza.

Temple Beth Ami, Congregation Beth Shalom and Chabad of Santa Clarita Valley, as well as the Jewish community from Friendly Valley, will join in the presentation, which will include information about how people can become informed and involved on a humanitarian level in the 24-day-old Gaza war, where fighting has persisted despite several calls for a cease-fire from both sides.

Most recently, Israel and Hamas have agreed to a 72-hour humanitarian cease-fire to start Friday, officials with the U.N. and the United States announced Thursday. However, Secretary of State John Kerry cautioned there were “no guarantees” the lull in violence would bring an end to the war.

The Rabbi Mark Blazer of Temple Beth Ami said Sunday’s event will focus on both political and humanitarian efforts in Gaza.

The meeting is scheduled at 10 a.m. Sunday at Chabad Jewish Center of the Santa Clarita Valley, 23120 Lyons Ave. in Newhall.
