The stars were out as Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Health Foundation crowned its new Guild president. “Faux” actresses, Demi Moore, Bette Midler and even Marilyn Monroe mingled with guests at the Guild installation dinner held at Salt Creek Grille on April 16.

The Hollywood theme paid tribute to the dramatic, glamorous nature of its new president, Shelley Hann (aka Demi Moore), and members adopted glamorous roles as silver screen leading ladies.

“I have to tell you, whenever Shelley Hann is in charge, good things happen,” said Diana Vose, (aka Rita Hayworth), and Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Health Foundation president. “We are so pleased to have her in place as Guild president and look forward to an exciting year of events and fundraising with a fantastic board.”

The 2009-10 Newhall Memorial Guild board also includes Immediate Past President Catherine Montoya (Marilyn Monroe), President-elect Carol Neyer (Grace Kelly), Treasurer Debra Weyand (Donna Reed), VP Membership Phyllis Grekin (Bette Midler) & Tamra Levine (Patty Duke), Recording Secretary Mary McCormick (Sally Field), Corresponding Secretary Barbara Sanguinetti (Doris Day), and Parliamentarian Lois Bauccio (Lauren Bacall).

Established in 1985, the Guild raises funds primarily for Newhall Memorial’s laboratory services department with its popular, uniquely-themed annual fall fashion show and the Silver Rose Debutante program, which provides social, civic, and personal enrichment opportunities for local high school seniors and juniors each season.

Gratitude was expressed for the efforts of outgoing president Catherine Montoya prior to the official installation. “We had a great year. You are full of energy, driven, and introduced so many new members to our Guild. You always got the job done and were a joy to work with,” said Terrie Cipriano, Newhall Memorial liaison to the Guild.

Assemblyman Cameron Smyth sent Ed Masterson, a representative from his office, to commend the organization.

“Sometimes we take for granted or don’t give credit for the contributions people make, so on behalf of Assemblyman Smyth and myself, thank you, Shelley, for stepping up as leader of the Guild and to all you ladies,” Masterson said. “Santa Clarita is lucky to have people and organizations like the Guild that give back so much to the community.”

After each Guild board member was introduced, Masterson presented the Guild gavel to Hann, who attended the installation with husband G. Marshall Hann. Dressed in sparkling black pants, silk tank, and a necklace of gold stars, Hann, who has been a Guild member for six years, was visibly emotional as she accepted the nomination.

“Thank you for giving me this opportunity. I also want to thank my husband, who supports me in everything I do. We‘re going to have an incredible year,” Hann said through tears. “Most importantly, the Guild is about our volunteers and members. You all make my job easy. You’re all stars in my heart.”
