A big rig fire has shut down three lanes on Interstate 5 north of Castaic, according to officials with the California Highway Patrol.

As of 9:15 p.m., three northbound lanes remained closed north of Castaic, according to CHP Officer Peter Bishop.

The big rig reportedly caught fire between Lake Hughes Road and Templin Highway around 8:15 p.m., according to the CHP incident log. For a time, all lanes in the area were shut down, according to officials, as roughly 50 gallons of fuel spilled across lanes no. 1, 2, 3 and 4 catching on fire.

One lane reopened at around 8:50 p.m.

The fire did not spread to the surrounding brush. And the spill appears to have been contained on the road, according to Bishop.

A SigAlert was issued for the three northbound lanes at around 8:40 p.m., though it is unclear when the lanes will reopen.
