City wastes money

In the 25 years that I have subscribed to The Signal, I have only written to the Opinion page one other time, 18 years ago.

Reading the article about Bob Kellar and Frank Ferry wanting to change the logo for the city of Santa Clarita made me see red ("Councilman wants God in city logo," April 16).

I am tired of Mr. Kellar and Mr. Ferry wasting our hard-earned tax dollars.

Here are a few examples of how this anger got started: The most insulting are the "Mayor Dude" posters that our self-promoting mayor, Frank Ferry, made of himself and plastered around town at the bus stops.

(I should have called and complained when Cameron Smyth did the same when he was mayor.)

Remember when they spent thousands of dollars just to rename San Fernando Road to Main Street?

Another big waste of money was changing the parking pattern on Main Street and then having to change and restripe it because it didn't work well.

I was very upset when our tax dollars bought a trolley car to pick up employees at the industrial park to transport them to the mall at lunch time.

I would love to hear how much that project cost per rider since the interest was non-existent.

(Please don't tell me that they were trying to go green; we have a very effective bus system.)

We have people losing their jobs, families losing their homes, teachers getting pink slips, small and large businesses closing down - and they think this is the best way to spend our tax dollars? What are they thinking?

Please, please, isn't there someone out there who will run for City Council and remember that this money is earned by hard-working people in this community and should not be squandered and wasted?

We need a City Council that can be a good and mindful steward of our tax dollars.
