Civil rights complaint resolved over Canyon High softball field

Federal Education Department investigators have closed the book on a civil rights complaint alleging gender-based discrimination at Canyon High School athletic facilities, satisfied that nine of 10 improvements to a girls’ softball field are under way, they said in a letter to the William S. Hart Union High School District.

The letter stamped with a Dec. 4 date and addressed to former Hart Superintendent Robert Challinor, Education Department Office for Civil Rights Investigator Mary Beth McLeod states: “After reviewing the documents provided, the Office of Civil Rights has determined it is appropriate to administratively close this OCR complaint.”
