Santa Clarita decries cell towers, withdraws from authority looking to build them

Amid concerns about possible public health consequences and a lack of local control, Santa Clarita this week became the latest city to bow out of a plan to erect more than 100 cell towers countywide for an emergency communication system.

Santa Clarita City Council members made the call during their meeting Tuesday night — voting to withdraw the city from membership in the joint powers authority for the Los Angeles Regional Interoperable Communications System, or LA-RICS, which jointly proposed the network of towers with the county.
