A "Fandango de Veracruz" -- a Son Jarocho-style festival featuring music, dance and food -- will fill the Newhall Community Center Friday afternoon starting at 5.

The center's Ballet Folklorico will perform two Veracruz-style dance numbers and guest artist Cesar Castro will perform with other guest musicians and dancers.

KPFK-FM air personality Betto Arcos will emcee, the event, which is free and open to the public,

The Fandango is a pre-concert celebration tied in with Friday's night's performance by Grammy-winning multi-cultural band Los Lobos at the 975-seat Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center at College of the Canyons.

All tickets for that show are sold out.

The Performing Arts Center and the city of Santa Clarita, which operates the Newhall Community Center, are serving as hosts of the Fandango.

"The point of this festival is to engage our community and make the arts accessible," said Adam Philipson, PAC managing director. "We chose the Newhall Community Center for this event because of its commitment to the families in the Santa Clarita Valley."

The city and COC will provide free transportation between the two venues, Philipson said.
