Firefighters quickly doused a car fire on Highway 14 near Sand Canyon Sunday, snuffing out the threat of a possible brush fire.

A Volkswagen Beetle was reported to be on fire shortly after 11:45 a.m. Sunday morning on the shoulder of the southbound lanes of Highway 14, just south of Sand Canyon Road , according to the California Highway Patrol.

“We got the call from the CHP of a vehicle fire,” said Supervisor Melanie Flores with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Shortly before noon, firefighters informed their dispatcher from the scene that the car was “fully involved” in flames.

No one was hurt and none of the fire spread to roadside brush, said Supervisor Art Marrujo said.
