Nature Center open house

The Placerita Canyon Natural Center will host an open house from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 20 at the Nature Center, 19152 W. Placerita Canyon Road, Newhall.

Admission is free to this family-friendly event. Parking is also free. Animal presentations, panning for fools gold, face painting, rock painting, Indian artifact presentations, leader-led hikes and a history presentation of the original Walker cabin all will be part of the day's program.

The construction on the new nature center building is nearly complete and the grand re-dedication will be held 10 a.m. Friday, June 19. Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael Antonovich and other county and local agency officials will be on hand. Placerita Canyon Nature Center has seven different trails comprising 12 miles, from beginner to advanced. Obtain a map at the information desk or visit the Web site.
