A woman who overpowered someone at a grocery store in Valencia Sunday, escaped on a bicycle with stolen groceries is now being sought by deputies for robbery, a sergeant with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station said.

The robbery happened at Valley Produce Market on Newhall Ranch Road shortly after 4 p.m. Sunday, Sgt. Tim Vander Leek said late Sunday afternoon.

The suspect used physical force to steal groceries from the victim, he said.  It was unclear from initial reports if the victim was a grocery store clerk or a customer.

Vander Leek said at 4:15 p.m. that he was waiting to hear from deputies as to whether or not the victim required medical attention.

The suspect, who was last seen riding a bicycle from the store in the direction of McBean Parkway, was described as a white woman in her 30s, with blond hair, 5-foot-8 and about 130 pounds, wearing a blue shirt and blue jeans.
