Single Mothers Outreach provides support online

One of the more important ways Single Mothers Outreach of Santa Clarita effectively serves their parents is through its online support group called SMO SCV Support.

SMO posts such things as donations of furniture or appliances, notification of jobs in Santa Clarita Valley, or community workshops that would benefit their parents, such as Zonta of SCV's LifeForward series, or Valencia United Methodist's Project Angel Food, a program that distributes high quality discounted food.

SMO presently has more than 100 families participating in SMO SCV Support.

Equally important, it is a place where parents connect to each other for support, to ask questions, and to network.

SMO recently received a call from a mom who excitedly reported that because of SMO SCV Support, she will be moving in with another mom who posted an announcement asking if anyone was interested in sharing housing. It turns out they had already met and connected through another SMO event.

She is also taking advantage of SCV Leasing's generous offer to let the two families borrow its RV-sized truck to help move their furnishings. She found a couple of men in her church to help her move.

After the dust settles, she plans to coordinate a childcare co-op to help SMO families keep childcare costs down as well as facilitate friendships.

Much of the support to SMO families is made possible by generous SCV businesses, community organizations and churches.
