Recording songs and making music videos may be a dream for many kids and adults, but one local talent, Alexis Wolfe, decided to create her own opportunity. It was the beginning of her sophomore year at Valencia High School when she decided to get serious about her songwriting. Using her own money, she hired another teen to make a beat, and within a few days, she wrote “Like That.”

Finding a recording studio was the next hurdle. After an internet search and a few phone calls, she set up a meeting with The Hidden Studio in Hollywood. After saving enough money from background acting, she recorded her first song in October of 2013. Soon after, she started planning the music video. It helped to know students in the award winning Valencia Television (VTV) department. Alexis choreographed two dances and asked friends from the hip hop team to be in the video. She hired senior Brandon Bernier, from VTV, to film and edit her video. Her sister, Erica, took pictures on set for her cover photo. Alexis’s dream was becoming a reality when she released her first single, “Like That," on iTunes and YouTube that November.

Fast forward to the summer of 2014, when she made her own beat and wrote the lyrics for her single, “Commit.” This time, she added rap to her R & B/Pop track with the help of two friends, Nate Selassie and Eric Barrier III. It helps to have friends like Justin Vong (also from VTV), who knew the owners of a local gas station in Castaic. Justin’s friend Sean, whose parents own the station, was willing to stay up all night with cast and crew to film the opening scenes of "Commit." After the video was released, Alexis and friends handed out orange bracelets at the US Open of Surfing to promote the song/video. In October of the same year, she was invited to sing at the All American High School Film Festival in New York City. Alexis and her mom worked fast to raise enough money in order to attend. Thanks to a GoFundMe account, selling personal items and working as a Warrior Cheer coach, she was able to perform at the award ceremony in front of 3,000 people.

After being a cheerleader for three years, Alexis decided not to try out her senior year so she could focus on her music. She wanted to create a song with an even stronger R & B vibe and worked with her producer, Kevin Leach, to create “On One” in June. For this music video, Brandon had a partner, Teryn Brown, to help direct, produce and edit it. Alexis was lucky to find prime filming locations with the help of three local businesses: Gold Elements, The Shot Exchange and Tresses Salon. A majority of the scenes were shot by steadicam operator, Parker Brooks, who just happens to be a neighbor. She also had the help of a few actor friends, including Sam Evans, who rescues her in the music video.

On a whim, they investigated the possibility of having a premier of “On One” at the Edwards Theater in Valencia. The idea was to spread the word and gain a wider audience. With the help of her family, plus working part time at Jersey Mike's, Alexis was able to invite a few hundred people to see her newest music video on the big screen. The event took place on November 17, 2015, red carpet and all. Alexis hopes to inspire others to pursue their dreams and aspirations. She will continue to record music, but will also be attending college in the fall. For more information, check out alexiswolfemusic.com. Alexis is an independent artist, but hopes to sign with a record label some day.
