Most of us have heard about the options to make our homes more sustainable, or perhaps we have a neighbor or friend who is going through the process, but did you know that you can receive money back for some of these improvements?

The City of Santa Clarita is partnering with The Energy Network’s “Santa Clarita Greener Homes” project, a program designed to help property owners make energy-efficient home upgrades. Rebates are available for individual upgrades, including window replacement, insulation, duct sealing and high-efficiency water heaters. There are also rebates available for “green” heating and cooling improvements.

The Energy Network is helping some homeowners receive more than $6,500 in rebates and save money on their utility bills, as well. The program is well on its way to environmentally improving many homes in Santa Clarita!

Several Santa Clarita residents have taken advantage of the program to date, including Saugus homeowner Carla Crancer, who loves the results.

“With the new insulation and air sealing, I noticed that we don’t have to turn the air conditioner on as much,” she said. “I’m glad that we’ve improved our home, not only for more comfort and savings, but as a legacy to pass on to our kids,” she said.

It’s a simple process to get started. The Energy Network has a list of their skilled local participating contractors, who have been vetted and trained for the program, available on their website. Once a contractor is selected by the homeowner, a meeting is set up to discuss possible options and check for eligibility regarding rebates and incentives before getting started. The Energy Network urges residents living in homes built before 1995 to look into this program; however, it is open to everyone.

The benefits go beyond the rebates – those are just an added bonus! These modernizations can improve indoor air quality, enhance the comfort for you and your family, reduce utility bills and even have the ability to raise your property value.

The Santa Clarita Greener Homes Project is a valuable resource for residents here in Santa Clarita. Programs like this help to improve the quality of life by making homes more energy efficient, more comfortable and more sustainable for homeowners.
