SCV Scene
The best time of the year is here. The Cowboy Festival at Melody Ranch in Placerita Canyon rides into town next weekend. Great food, great music, great fun and a chance to walk the historic streets of the Melody Ranch Motion Picture Studio where many famous Western films and television shows were made ("The Lone Ranger," "Gunsmoke," "Hopalong Cassidy" and many others). Visit for schedules and ticket information.

Santa Clarita Symphony
For those who like to color outside the lines, there were crayons and coloring books, (provided by Union Bank of California) for the small fry who attended the Santa Clarita Symphony Family Concert, "Animals Alive" at the College of the Canyons Performing Arts Center. It was a fun early-evening concert with a charming performance by the professional musicians of the Santa Clarita Symphony. In addition, the members of the Santa Clarita Youth Orchestra who also performed were more than up to the task. I particularly enjoyed the actors who portrayed the animals in the "Carnival of Animals" portion of the concert. John Dow, marketing director of the Symphony, was a credible ringmaster, too! Kudos to Robert E. Lawson, maestro and music director, for another spectacular success. For more information about the Symphony visit
