Three local soccer players participated in this past weekend’s U.S. Soccer Developmental Academy Playoffs.

Canyon graduate Robert Freise, Saugus graduate Shane Wilson and Golden Valley senior-to-be Juan Sebastian De Rada represented teams at the event in Greensboro, N.C.

The U.S. Soccer Developmental Academy consists of 64 of the top youth soccer clubs in the country.

Freise and De Rada play for LAFC Chelsea, which earned a berth in the playoffs by finishing first in the developmental academy’s West Conference SoCal Division.

Wilson’s Real So Cal team finished third in the same division.

The championship of the tournament will be played in July at the Home Depot Center in Carson.

LAFC Chelsea and Real So Cal did not advance.

Freise and Wilson both said their goal is to attract attention.

The tournament was a showcase of sorts, as both players said college scouts and USA Soccer scouts will be watching the games.

Freise will try and walk on to the San Diego State soccer team and Wilson will attend UC Santa Barbara with hopes of joining the team.

Their commitment to the academy prevented them from playing high school soccer this past season.

Freise didn’t play for Canyon as a junior either. He was a varsity player for Canyon his sophomore year.

Wilson played varsity soccer for Saugus as a sophomore and junior.
