Valencia senior guard Chelsey Hastigan recently committed to NCAA Division II Western State College of Colorado after receiving a full basketball scholarship.

The three-year varsity player had other offers, but said it came down two schools - Sonoma State and WSSC.

"The main (deciding factor) was the coach. She made me feel a part of the team. She is an awesome lady and I look forward to playing there," Hastigan said.

Hastigan had a strong senior year. She was named to the 2007-08 All-Foothill League First Team and, for the second consecutive year, the All-Santa Clarita Valley Team.

The 5-foot-7 guard led the team in points per game with 13.8.

Her junior year she also led the team with 11.8 points per game.

Most of Hastigan's high scoring was attributed to her three-point shooting. She made 87 three-pointers this past season.

Hastigan ranked fourth in California for 3-pointers made. The senior guard also holds the school record for career 3-pointers made with 171.

Hastigan scored 905 points in her career, 387 in her senior year alone. This put her third for scoring in Valencia's history.

"She is awesome. She was a player that played every minute of every game," said Valencia head coach Jerry Mike.

Along with her shooting, Hastigan helped the team with 129 assists, 61 rebounds, and 58 steals.

Hastigan ended her high school basketball career in the second round of the CIF-Southern Section playoffs, scoring six points. Valencia lost to Mission Viejo 51-48 February 16.
