Republican lies wearing thin

When you read some of the letters to the editor printed in The Signal and the Republican rants consider this:

The American Enterprise Institute and the Brookings Institution convened a stellar cast on a recent Friday to review what has been learned since November and to analyze what has happened to the Republican Party since 1994.

There has been much chatter about who now speaks for the Republican Party, and whether the GOP has any message or agenda.

Moderate Republicans are gone and the crazies are polarizing the national electorate. Media talking heads now speak for the party and the Republican elected officials kowtow to them, obviated by the rash of apologies to Rush Limbaugh in recent weeks.

Democrats have won the popular vote in four of the past five elections, and outside the deep South, Republicans are in trouble.

Since 1988, that group's proportion of the national electorate has dropped by nearly 20 percentage points.

In addition, a wild mix of demographics voted for Obama; old, young, rich, working class, Black, Jewish, Latino, Asian.

Obama would actually have won without the under-30 crowd.

GOP strategist Mike Murphy described this in Time magazine as a coming Republican ice age, but it could be worse than that. Can you say extinct?

As the economy worsened in Q1, Obama's popularity actually rose and a majority continues to support him and his policies.

So with all the name-calling - socialist, fascist, not an American - realize none of that is impacting people's feelings about the president or the direction of the country.

People have access to the truth thanks to the Internet and have become smarter in discerning the truth from the lies, and it shows in the direction of the country.

God bless America.
