VALENCIA, CA (May 9, 2016)--Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital has partnered with the City of Santa Clarita to provide refreshments for five city pit stops during the 13th annual Bike to Work Day Challenge on Thursday, May 19, 2016.

As in 2015 and previous years, a cycling team from Henry Mayo will participate in the event. There were 17 team cyclists last year with one member winning a bicycle in the city’s raffle, according to Wesley Wright, team leader from Henry Mayo.

“This is a great event,” said Wright, who has been riding his bike to work every day since 2009. “There’s a sense of camaraderie, working together as a team. It also helps people get out and get some exercise while exploring. There are over 40 miles of dedicated bike paths in the City of Santa Clarita.”

According to GreenSantaClarita.com, last year’s Bike to Work Day Challenge reported that 25 businesses and 225 bicycle commuters participated in Santa Clarita. These efforts help to enhance air quality, reduce traffic congestion, and improve personal health and fitness.

This friendly competition challenges businesses in the City of Santa Clarita to see which employer can get the most employees to bike to work on May 19. The businesses with the highest participation rate in each category will win a gift certificate to the restaurant of their choice and a free smoothie from Juice It Up – Santa Clarita. All Challenge participants are eligible for the city’s raffle and prizes.

Cyclists participating in the Challenge can stop for refreshments from 7 to 9 a.m. on May 19 at the following partner-supported pit stops in Santa Clarita:
•City Hall – 23920 Valencia Boulevard
•Bouquet Junction (Valencia Blvd & Bouquet Canyon Rd.) – Behind Chi Chi’s
•Trail access at Camp Plenty & Soledad Canyon Road
•Trail access at Newhall Avenue & 16th Street
•City Public Works Yard – 25663 Avenue Stanford
