A pair of local athletes pulled down prestigious honors in Reno, Nev. last week as Jasmine Hall and Ted Glasnow both won gold medals at the AAU West Coast Junior Olympics.

Hall won the heptathlon and Glasnow took home first place honors in the decathlon.

"I figured that I'm pretty good at most events, so during my senior year I decided to focus on the decathlon," said Glasnow, a Hart graduate. "There are still things I need to work on, but I'm excited to get to go to school to work on what I'm focused on. The whole event was very encouraging."

Glasnow tallied 5,720 points to win his medal, topping five other competitors and clinch the gold in the last event of the second day by finishing second in the 1,500 meter run.

Glasnow also won the long jump and the high jump.
Hall posted a score of 4,348 points to win the women's side of the draw, beating her closest competitor by more than 400 points.

"It was a really fun experience, and it feels awesome to win because I really wasn't expecting to," said Hall, who will be entering her junior year at Valencia in the fall. "My coaches helped me through everything, and it gets me excited for what might come next."

The Valencia student posted a time of 25.7 seconds in the 200 meters and threw the javelin 24.12 meters, while also setting a personal record in the high jumping, clearing 5-feet, 7-inches to win the event.

Glasnow finished no lower than second in any of the 10 events he competed in, which is a positive step toward his freshman year at Notre Dame, where he will compete in the decathlon at the collegiate level.

"I retrospectively looked back on what I have worked on after the event was over," Glasnow said. "I have a lot of respect for people that compete in the decathlon, so it's nice to be able to be a part of something like this. There is a lot I need to work on still, but this is a nice thing to be able to reflect on while I work on my goals."
