Hollow words

In a story in The Signal's Nov. 6, 2008, edition, following the passage of Measure SA ("First priority: Castaic high school"), Hart District School Board Member Gloria Mercado-Fortine stated, "We are going to move forward in full disclosure and transparency and really encourage the community to work with us as we implement the bond."

After reading Joe Messina's Opinion column ("Hart District choosing rough road to a high school in Castaic," The Signal, June 21), it appears those were just hollow words spoken by Mercado-Fortine.

The Hart district has been doing their due diligence on the Sterling Gateway site for nearly 11 months and they just discovered that a deed restriction exits prohibiting a school from be built.

It seems to me that pulling all public documents on a piece of property would be the first action item for acquiring a school site.
One has to wonder if the Hart district is really committed to building Castaic High.

Now that Sterling Gateway is dead, we the people of Castaic are ready to take Ms. Mercado-Fortine at her word, and we will work with the district to identify a new site for Castaic High.
