A bicyclist was killed by a hit-and-run driver on Placerita Canyon Road Wednesday, and despite an intense search the driver was not arrested.

The cyclist, who was not identified, was hit shortly before 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 20100 block of Placerita Canyon Road near a curve just southwest of the entrance to Disney’s Golden Oak Ranch.

The cyclist was declared dead at the scene. His body came to a rest on the shoulder of eastbound Placerita Canyon Road about 20 feet from the bicycle, a white helmet lying nearby.

California Highway Patrol officers shut down Placerita Canyon during the investigation.

An intense hunt for the motorist — reported to be driving a dark gray Mazda with a roof rack and a cracked windshield — focused first on the Placerita Canyon-Sand Canyon area, then expanded outward to other areas of Canyon Country.

No reports of arrests in the case were made late Wednesday evening.

The California Highway Patrol was investigating the hit-and-run.
