On Monday, August 17, the Domestic Violence Center of the Santa Clarita Valley will host its annual charity golf tournament at the prestigious Valencia Country Club. The Golf Tournament is set to kick-off with a shotgun start at 10:00 a.m.

"The golf tournament is a two-fold opportunity for the Center. First, it will give us the opportunity to use a fun and relaxed setting to address the very serious issue and effects of domestic violence, and its very real impacts on families. Secondly, we will be able to raise much needed funds to continue much-needed programs and services to aid domestic violence victims here in the Santa Clarita Valley," commented Councilmember Bob Kellar, Honorary Board Member for the Center.

The Domestic Violence Center of Santa Clarita serves victims of abuse and neglect within our community and strives to promote and preserve non-violent and non-abusive family systems through intervention, prevention and education.

Last year, the Domestic Violence center served over 1,000 women and children via the 24-hour hotline, bi-lingual counseling and support groups, and emergency shelter. The Domestic Violence Center is an impactful and empowering force that assists victims in overcoming domestic violence, as well as initiates processes to ensure a better quality of life for the future.

Events such as the upcoming Golf Tournament help to raise funds for continued success and programs as well as heighten public awareness of abuse in relationships in an effort to eliminate the cycle of violence. For the 2009 Domestic Violence Center Golf Tournament, the Center is proud to announce that Congressman Howard "Buck" McKeon of the 25th Congressional District and Assemblyman Cameron Smyth of the 38th Assembly District, will serve as co-honorary chairs, helping to raise awareness and much-needed funds for the Center.

"Domestic Violence is a tragic issue that impacts our communities around the nation and here in the 25th Congressional District. Too often, domestic violence is an issue that fails to receive the attention it warrants, so I am honored to serve as a co-chair for the Domestic Violence Center golf tournament event, which will allow the community to come together in the fight to stop abuse and neglect. This is a worthy cause," said U.S. Rep. Howard P. "Buck" McKeon (R-Santa Clarita).

"I'm proud to serve as a co-chair of this year's Domestic Violence Center golf tournament. Domestic violence is a serious problem, and this is an opportunity for us to raise community awareness about the issue, and to raise funds for local domestic violence programs," said Assemblyman Smyth.

The Domestic Violence Center is currently accepting single player and foursome registration for the August 17th Golf Tournament at the Valencia Country Club. Sponsorship opportunities are available including the prestigious Title Sponsor opportunity.
