Had it not been for two troublesome holes at the end of Saturday’s round in the U.S. Women’s Open Championship, who knows how high Valencia resident Alison Lee might have climbed.

But a bogey on No. 17 and a double bogey on 18 dropped the 14-year-old amateur to 5-over for the day and 10-over overall after three rounds at Bethlehem, Pa.’s Saucon Valley Country Club.

She is now tied for 42nd in the tournament.

“I could have played a lot better,” said the Valencia High freshman-to-be. “I couldn’t putt as well. I missed a lot of putts I could have made.”

Cristie Kerr remains the leader after three rounds at 2-under.

Lee made two birdies, five bogeys and one double-bogey Saturday.

Had Lee parred her final two holes, she would have climbed up the leaderboard. She came into the day tied for 28th.

Yet it really didn’t matter to Lee.

“Actually I just came here to do the best I could,” she said. “I’m not too worried about my score. I’m gaining experience and hopefully will have fun out there (today).”

Lee will tee off for the final round at 10:40 a.m. today, 7:40 a.m. local time.

On Thursday, she was at 4-over.

In Friday’s second round, she was 1-over and at the time outplaying the No. 1 ranked women’s golfer in the world in Lorena Ochoa.

“I think it was pretty amazing,” Lee said. “I didn’t expect to play like that and she didn’t have a good day (Friday).”

Lee said the tournament has been so fun for her and as the youngest golfer and one of only seven amateurs in the 72-golfer field, she is making the most of gaining experience.

“I’m having so much fun being on the range with all these pro golfers,” Lee said. “I remember (seven-time Major winner) Juli Inkster when I was 9, she gave me a golf glove and now she’s hitting range balls behind me.”
