Signal box blues

I recently had my first request for service from Southern Cal Edison in 20 years on Monday, July 25. They turned off my air conditioner in error since I do not have their conservation program, although their signal box is still on my unit.

I spent an hour on the phone and was unable to get past their recorded menus. I called my air conditioner service company at 5 p.m., and at 6:30 p.m. the green light on their box came on and the air conditioner was working.

Nicholas Air arrived at 8 a.m. Tuesday and it was still working so our unit was thoroughly checked and was found to be in good condition.

We found out this problem is not uncommon with signal boxes more than four years old.

On Wednesday the green light was off again and no air conditioning.

On Thursday I was told Edison would have a contractor out in three to five days to remove my signal box.

They also told me there is no way they can control my signal box. I suppose it worked all by itself on Monday and Wednesday.

I am writing this on Saturday afternoon knowing that the earliest a contractor might or might not come to fix my problem is sometime next week.

It is 90 degrees and humid in the house as I write this.
