Summer is wrapping up, the kids are getting ready to head back to school, but that doesn’t mean the fun has to stop! Next Saturday, August 20, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the City of Santa Clarita will host its annual Youth Sports and Healthy Families Festival. The event will take place at the Santa Clarita Sports Complex, located at 20850 Centre Pointe Parkway, Santa Clarita.

The Youth Sports and Healthy Families Festival gives children and families the opportunity to experience over 30 recreational games and activities throughout the 22 acres of the City’s Sports Complex and its facilities. The free event features non-stop action everywhere you look. The Aquatic Center pools, the skate park, the gymnasium, the sand volleyball courts, the basketball courts and the Complex’s multiple fields will be filled to the brim with activities and sports. Attendees can try out exciting sports like disc golf, kayaking, volleyball and snorkeling.

The fun doesn’t stop there – rock climbing, an inflatable slide, a racquetball court, entertaining lawn games and even a tricycle course…for both kids and adults. If you have been to the Youth Sports and Healthy Families Festival before, then you are sure to remember favorites like SNAG golf, futsal and stand-up paddle boarding. These entertaining options are back for another year.

After a full day of trying out new sports, residents can head over to the Healthy Families Experience, supported by Kaiser Permanente and Whole Foods, in The Centre (formerly the Activities Center) to cool down and recharge with a healthy snack. Here, families will have the opportunity to learn interesting facts about food, receive tips on how to live a more active lifestyle, and interact with various informational and educational displays. Kids can also partake in the Whole Foods Explore the Store! and Create Your Plate! activities, where they will learn how to put together healthier meal options.

Take a break to enjoy live music and a variety of food trucks, which will have food available for purchase. Also, be sure to enter the raffle, happening throughout the Festival, for your chance to win great prizes. All raffle proceeds will benefit the City’s SCORE Program, which provides recreation scholarships for youth.

If you are interested in lending a hand at this year’s festival and want to learn more, volunteer opportunities can be found at SantaClaritaVolunteers.com. To view the full event lineup and a map of the festival’s activities, visit santa-clarita.com/YouthSportsFestival.

The Youth Sports and Healthy Families Festival is your chance to try out a new sport or game for free. You may just find that your little one loves playing soccer. Or maybe you’ll discover you would like to take up paddle boarding regularly. When it’s all said and done, the Festival is a wonderful opportunity to spend time with family and friends.

I hope your summer has been great and I look forward to seeing you at the Youth Sports and Healthy Families Festival.
