Tracy Bernardo is a senior at Saugus High School and a member of the Saugus dance team.

The Saugus dance team has once again lived up to its legacy and brought home another national title.
Now the members is inviting the entire community to celebrate the immense accomplishments this team has achieved, as well as the beauty and power of dance.

This Friday and Saturday, the team will hold its annual dance show.

The theme this year is "Shipwrecked," based on the show's engaging opening number during which the team will be portraying pirates. However, these are not your ordinary Disneyland pirates. With mostly instrumental music and modern choreography, the number is intense, creepy and mysterious.

Choreographed by Tiffany Franci, the opener will definitely keep the audience on the edge of its seats for the full five minutes. The team has not performed a dance like this for the community before and hope to surprise the audience with diversity and deep interpretation. The choreography has amazing imagery, and the dancers hope that the audience will really feel like they have been captured by greedy pirates sailing the dangerous sea.

"We are so excited to finally get the chance to show the community what we can really do," said Chelsea Gue, a Saugus senior and dance team officer. "They only see us perform at little events that don't really show our true ability, but this opener will prove we can dance."

Gue feels the choreography matches the team perfectly, and that the dancers can embody their character so well that the audience "won't be able to blink or they will miss an amazing moment."

Along with the opener, the show will include all of the team's competition numbers. It has put so much time and sweat into each of these numbers that the audience will not be disappointed.

They will also be performing their Intermediate Dance, which received first place at USA Nationals, making the team six-time national champions.

Local studios and high schools will also be performing to create a true community event.

"We love sharing our show with those who have the same passion for dance as we do. The dance world is so small that we are all friends and love coming together to support one another," Gue said.

These performances create a night of great entertainment and family fun that cannot be missed, Gue added.

One of the main attractions of the show is the Saugus co-ed team. The dancers each picked a partner, and they learned a dance in about a month. This dance is always very entertaining and crowd pleasing, since ordinary high school boys will be showing off their killer moves.

Along with dancing boys, the show also includes the Saugus Dance Dads, who will be performing a dance number of their own.

"Shipwrecked" is full of unbelievable dancing, huge laughs, and great entertainment, so please join us on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. in the Saugus High School gymnasium. Tickets are $8 for students with an I.D., and $10 for adults. For information, call the school at (661) 297-3900.
