The other side: zoos’ contributions

Regarding my letter “Free the enslaved animals” published by The Signal Sept. 13, in which I called for the elimination of zoos: I would like to make a corrective position.

A Signal blogger pointed out to me that zoos have important functions: They are educational, they conduct conservation projects, and without them poachers would cause the extinction of some species.

In addition, research can be done at zoos that would be impossible in the field; finally, the breeding of small populations to avoid extinction can be carried out in zoos.

So my suggestion of doing away with zoos, although well meant, was indeed wrong, and my thanks to the blogger who pointed this out to me.

Some Signal bloggers are considerate and informative. Unfortunately, some others never miss a chance to insult and name call. Too bad.
