Groundbreaking in Downtown Newhall for the 42-room Hotel Luxen got under way Thursday. The hotel, to be located 24219 Railroad Ave., is being developed by the Ikon Hospitality Group.

The Luxen will have two main stories and a penthouse. Its architectural style has been described as a hybrid of Western, Victorian and main-street commercial, consistent with the city’s vision for the area.

“It’s been a couple of years in the making,” said Tim Crissman, of Crissman Commercial Services, who has played a key role in revitalization of the downtown area.

“The city was very supportive, and it will be a very exciting addition to Old Town.”

Also under way is a new brew house-restaurant that will be located at the site of the Mirror Mirror  women’s clothing store and Thai Pepper property at 24407 Main St. Plans are being submitted to the city for exterior renovations.

According to Crissman, the brew house will have a beer garden at the rear of the building with table seating and a bocce ball court. The brew house will occupy a portion of the space that was formerly occupied by Mirror Mirror.

The brew house doesn’t have a name yet, but it’ll will be similar to the original Wolf Creek in Valencia. The plan is that the brewing operation will supply beer for the restaurant and bar.

According to Crissman, the two new additions to downtown are proof that Newhall revitalization is picking up steam and will continue at a rapid pace.

“We have the Metrolink (station) there,” he said. “We’ll have a hotel down here. We’re going to have exciting nightlife down here. We’re going to have people traveling to come to the cool places that we’re putting down here.”
