Beginning this Saturday, July 25, the city of Santa Clarita will host "Junior Skate" every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Santa Clarita Skate Park.

Junior Skate is open exclusively to skaters 12 years of age and under and all attendees must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

The city created Junior Skate time to allow younger and less experienced skaters the opportunity to enjoy the city's Skate Park with their peers and individuals of similar skill levels. All Junior Skate attendees must be in full compliance with Skate Park rules and safety regulations, which require all riders to wear a helmet, elbow, and knee pads, and will not be permitted without a parent or guardian.

"The city's Skate Park is a very popular place and is attended by riders of all ages and experience levels," Mayor Frank Ferry said. "Junior Skate gives younger riders the opportunity to enjoy the Skate Park with kids their own age, free of the pressures sometimes associated with riding around older kids with advanced skill levels."

Beginning Aug. 1, all Junior Skate attendees will need a Santa Clarita Sports Complex (SCSC) Membership Card for exclusive riding privileges.

SCSC membership cards are available at no cost and are may be obtained at the Recreation Registration Office, located in the Aquatic Center, and the Activities Center at the Sports Complex. The card will not be required to attend the July 25 event.

The city of Santa Clarita's new Skate Park celebrated its grand opening in March and has seen record attendance from local skaters, bmx riders, and more.

Widely regarded as one of the best skate park destinations in the country, the city's Skate Park features large bowls, a street plaza, half-pipe tunnel, snake runs, skate-able planters and much more.
