Today's your last chance to saddle up and mosey on over to Melody Ranch for the annual Cowboy Festival - the best part of living in the great SCV! Have some Cowboy Cobbler from the Cowboy Cultural Committee (cooked on coals in a Dutch oven) and listen to some of the finest entertainment west of the Rio Grande!

This is family friendly fun you can't miss. In addition, the historic streets of Melody Ranch are open to the public only once a year, its a great chance to walk where your Western television and movie heroes once trod!

Miss SCV Scholarship Pageant
It was a double pageant day on April 20 for Mardi Rivetti, executive director of the Miss SCV Scholarship Program, and her small crew of assistants. However, everything was beautiful and came off without a hitch! Kudos to All Pageant Contestants
I'm glad I wasn't a judge at the Miss SCV Scholarship Program pageants! I didn't envy the judges their jobs! To all who competed, well done! You were all impressive. Others particiapting in the pageants included Aurora Santana, Michaela Hippach, Jessika Constancio, Marisela Glasgow, Ashton Hoffman, Ferah Hosn, Nicole Snow, Meghan Reza, Nicole Lowry, April Molina, Kylie Stuart, Alexis Gavin, Fazzia Calderon, Valerie Fernandez, Ashley Anderson, Maggie Markel, Adriana Fernandez, Alyssa Round, Bilet Babasi, Ashley Gordon, Mary Baltakian, Elizabeth Watson, Bernadet Babasi, Tai-mana Castillo, Lianne Miller, Aundrea Talebli and Chase Lindvall. A special nod to Chase Lindvall who stepped in when Mr. SCV contestant Byron Alvarado was called away for a family emergency and was unable to compete.

The Miss SCV Scholarship Program
The Miss SCV Scholarship Program is unlike any other pageant program.

It requires the contestants to perform hours of community service to participate. The pageant queens can often be found at Chamber of Commerce ribbon cuttings, selling fundraising raffle tickets, helping out at numerous nonprofits or otherwise giving back to the SCV. It's a joy to watch these young women grow into lovely, confident young ladies. I also enjoyed sharing the evening pageant with attendees Mayor Bob Kellar, Kathy Keysor Smith, Bruce Fortine, Gloria Mercado Fortine and Barbara Myler.

COC Library Wine Tasting
The College of the Canyons Library Associates, which raises funds for the COC library knows how to hold a fundraiser! Their annual wine tasting, held on the second floor of the library, which has a beautiful view of the SCV, was a delightful event - and I also learned a great deal. The "Introduction to Dessert Wines" with John Bauccio (the accomplished son of the Child & Family Center's Lois Bauccio), was an entertaining and educational trip into the world of sweet dessert wines (which I adore!). With tapas and an apple tarte tatin with creme anglaise sauce crafted by the COC Culinary Arts Students and other goodies donated by Chocolates a la Carte and Whole Foods, the event was one I'll long remember.

Seen at the event were Peggy Edwards, Diana Cusumano, Jeff and Kiki Hacker, Frank and Charlotte Kleeman, Joan MacGregor, Dianne Van Hook, Barbara Sterns Cochran, Betty Seldner, Scott and Vanessa Wilk, Jeff Jacobson, Phyllis Walker, Debbie and John Hays, Rosemary St. Cyr and Al Pitzer, Steve and Julie Sturgeon, Mike and Deena Maloney and Bruce Fortine and Gloria Mercado.
