YMCA will continue service

After a thorough review of its budget, the Santa Clarita Valley Family YMCA has concluded it won't have to discontinue early childhood service to 22 families.

"We're happy for these 22 families," said Chris Clark, director of development and communications for the Santa Clarita Valley YMCA.

"We're happy that we can continue these programs."

When Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger slashed $656 million from the state budget through line-item vetoes, Clark and other YMCA officials became worried that programs would be severely cut.

Through constant communication with state agencies responsible for delivering those funds, Clark learned that the nearly $10,000 per month to maintain the early childhood programs will remain secure through spring 2010, he said.
