Under the lights of the William S. Hart Softball Complex , the Hart varsity softball team defeated Saugus 6-0 on Tuesday.

Hart, which is currently undefeated in the Foothill League, will face the No. 2 Valencia Vikings on Thursday in what is essentially the local softball game of the year.

In their last meeting, the Indians defeated the Vikings 1-0 thanks to a seventh-inning solo home run by Heather Stiglich.

"We're very confident," said Hart senior Christie Lincoln about the game against Valencia. "It's always a good game whenever we play them."

Should Hart get the win against the Vikings, the Indians will win the Foothill League - the Indians' first crown since they shared it with Valencia and Saugus in 2004.

The rivalry between Hart and Valencia has heated up recently.

The Vikings won all three meeting against Hart in 2007 including the CIF-Southern Section Division I title game.

The Vikings are currently ranked No. 6 in the Division I poll, while Hart is ranked No. 3.

Tuesday night, the Indians came out with fire against Saugus.

The Indians kicked of their offense in the first inning with a Heather RBI single.

It was all Hart would need.

But two batters later, Stiglich drove in two runs with line-drive double to left field to put Hart up 3-0.

Hart added a run in the second with an Alexis Caso RBI-double.

The Indians added another in the fifth with an RBI triple from Devon Lindvall.

In the bottom of the sixth, Lincoln hit a solo home run off Saugus relief pitcher Kelsey Christopherson, leaving Saugus behind 6-0.

"The adrenaline is different for us under these lights," said Hart starting pitcher Destiny Rodino.

Rodino pitched a complete game shutout, striking out seven. She earned her 19th win of the season.

" Our team has really gelled," Rodino said. "We're on the same page and we have one common goal and that's to win."

Rodino gained her seventh shutout of the season.

"Destiny has been consistent and fantastic for us all season," said Hart head coach Steve Calendo. "No matter what team we face, she gets tough and she has been solid for us all season."
