Local businessman Randy Moberg hopes to unseat College of the Canyons Trustee Joan MacGregor in the Nov. 3 race for the Santa Clarita Community College District.

"I want to do whatever I can to help the school tackle the problems and issues coming up in the next several years," Moberg said.

Today is the last day to file for candidacy in the November school board and water board elections.

Moberg hopes to apply his 30 years of business and financial experience to addressing the budget reductions at College of the Canyons.

"I think I can be of benefit to the college," he said.

MacGregor, currently board president, is serving her fourth term. She was elected in 1993.

MacGregor announced in July that she will be seeking another term on the board.

Moberg, a Valencia resident for 20 years, serves as chairman of the board for the Valley Industrial Association, a locally based business advocacy and networking organization.

Through his involvement, Moberg said, he has been active in promoting business education for kids.

For the past two years, Moberg has served on the College of the Canyons Foundation board.

He decided to run for MacGregor's seat because he does not want to go up against his friends, who are running for outgoing trustee Ernie Tichenor's seat.

"It's the only one available," he said.

Tichenor will not be seeking a fourth term. Instead, he's endorsing local businessman Michael Berger.

Joining Berger in the Nov. 3 race for the one vacated trustee seat are county administrator John Dortch, instructional aide Robin Bryce and local attorney Brian Koegle.
