Decoro confusion

As many of my neighbors, I am confused and angered that the Santa Clarita city engineer, Mr. Yi, decided to re-stripe Decoro.

Prior to restriping Decoro (a heavily traveled street), it was a four-lane street with a bike lane and was changed without any notification to a two-lane, larger bike lane, right-turn lane and a median that restricts automobiles from driving in.

I would like Mr. Yi to show the residents the study he says he completed about this dramatic restriping change. I was never asked my opinion nor were any of my neighbors.

Since the re-striping, I no longer turn right onto Decoro from Hillsborough since it now takes more time to get to McBean. I now travel on Hillsborough to Newhall Ranch Road then turn right and then left on McBean.

This does not increase my travel time, but now it puts more traffic on Hillsborough which goes straight through a neighborhood. So the traffic noise is now increased for those homeowners.

Also, now trying to get out of the local shopping area (Ralphs, the cleaners, Starbucks, etc.) it is almost impossible to turn left since there is now double the number of cars in one lane versus two lanes. Help! Must I now drive out of my way and go to another market?

Furthermore, in the eight years I have lived in a Northbridge Point, home I can count on one hand how many bikes have used the "old" bike lane. I do see families riding bikes with their children but they are all on the sidewalk which is safer for the children.

Also, as you know, Valencia has miles and miles of paseo which provides great bike paths throughout the city.

I intend to also send e-mails to Councilwoman Laurie Ender and City Manager Ken Pulskamp. Let's hope that the outrage we feel will result in Decoro being re-striped back to the efficient road we have enjoyed for many years.
