Too young to know

Colleges are the crossroads of our lives.

Choosing a certain one is like choosing which road to go down. The directions are for your own decision. No one can choose that for you.

And although some of us wish we could just sit in the middle and play games until we're old, we all have to move on. The tough part is knowing if you're choosing the right path.

How does anyone at 18 years old know where to lead their lives? How does anyone, at any age for that matter, know how to do anything?

A mother doesn't just wake up one day knowing how to love her children. And none of us can ever experience a first kiss twice.

So how do we know if we will mess it up? The truth is, we don't.

We are given one chance for everything in life. One childhood. One real best friend. One true love. And one journey through it all.

No one can prepare us for any of these things.

And the leap we seniors are about to take in life is one we won't be needing to practice. There are no rehearsals for life. No do-overs or re-runs. Double-takes are out of the question.

We are thrown out of high school and into the real world, expecting to know all the facts and figures. All the stuff we're all too young to know.

But when I really think about it, everyone is a little too young to know anything. With so much new stuff to learn, it's impossible for our hands not to be shaking.

And we haven't ever heard of any seniors our age without their hearts throbbing and their dreams and goals even heavier than the books we will have to carry in college. Only two months left until we all start applying for colleges.

So it's not goodbye yet. We still have our senior year to live it up. Just make sure you bring your camera along the way. The memories we take in little four-by-six photographs will be the shapes we carry most when we finally do move on.

All I can say is good luck. Good luck and grow up.
